His top notch production techniques bring to the table a nice fusion of 140 beats and future sounds. Majority of his music, apparently, fits under the genre ‘Post-Dubstep‘, a new one to me!

I’ve posted about his music before and he’s defiantly a name to look for in the near future!

Its hard to write a massive write up on just one track so all I can really say is let the music do the talking! Also when this track hits 1000 plays we are in for a treat as it will go up for FREE download!

As with most of his production the track is very high synth based that drops to a nice ambient sound. The bassline creeps in and doesn’t disappoint! The chopped up vocal is a great touch and helps the track progress nicely.

Check the free download below that I previously posted a month or two ago:

The SmugPolice blog really does stand as a piece of bassline history with post spanning over the hay day era of bassline! Its a real shame that majority of the links seem to be dead but its great to flick through a read to the posts and be reminded of the days that used to be. Since shelving the blog back in August there hasn’t been much of an update but looking through the archive its clear to see DJ Numb doesn’t look for the big names but the talent with a host of posts on up and comers within the scene with names like JG, Direct and myself. The blog shows his passion and commitment to, what I believe to be, a great genre of music! What makes it better is that he’s from down south, showing the power of up north music!

The mix starts out with a nice vocal collection of bassline house with powerful piano stabs and minimal bass warps, how it used to be back in the days of Sydney Street. Not only do they give a nice reminder of times gone past they have an element of the new school sounds in the form of ‘Jacking House’, basically a new revival of whats now known as ‘Old Skool Bassline’. From here we are taken even further down memory lane about 15mins in with some nice house vibes.

DJ Numb doesn’t hold back allowing the tracks to play as long as possible taking the listener on such a journey when it comes to the classic sounding tracks. A favourite in the first section has to be Cutty – Bikini Bottom, I’ve never heard of the producer before but the vibe from this track is sick (listen out for it around 18mins in). Theres such a mash up of genres in the first section but it works perfect, you can tell a lot of thought has been put into the track listing. The first ‘true’ bassline tracks comes in the form of TRC – Left The Baboon, coming off the Leak EP 2. I could write about this mix for hours, its so perfectly put together but I think I’ve covered too much already! Check out the mix below as well as the track list.

1. Davey Ecko vs Thomas Graham – Traktor
Never have I met someone outside of the north with such a love for the ‘up norf’ sound! With a track list near on filled with producers from the North this a rarity for a DJ from South London! That aside

As always Jambie kicks off the mix with some crazy intro sampling what I believe to be an 80′s horror film fitting in with the Voodoo theme. The first stack of tracks follow a sort of funky grime kind of vibe. This quickly changes up with the main bulk of the mix filled with bassline and UKB bangers alike! The track has a great live feel to it through out with sound effects and the odd wheel up as well as the added sound of vinyl which is always a great bonus. The mix is 31 tracks deep and is not only worth a listen but a download as well.

A host of grimes main men where out in force on the night with sets from label frontmen Elijiah & Skilliam, Swindle, D.O.K, Marcus Nasty, Royal-T, Champion & Spooky! Also performances on the night from JME and Ruby Lee Ryder as well as names like Logan Sama, Preditah and Big Nastie hosting on the night you know it wasn’t a night to be missed! If you wasn’t there and wasn’t up all night watching the online stream lucikly for you the Butterz gang have kindly uploaded the sets for FREE download! At the time of writing not all of the 11 sets have been uploaded but the ones that have are well worth the download! The sets are full of wheel ups, banter and pure fire! Best of all you can hear the crowd reaction which for me is a great touch when it comes to live recordings!

Champions set has to be one of my favourites, its filled with hard hitting basses with funky element thrown in! Surprisingly he also chucks a few bassline tracks in for good measure! Spookys set is also a must have, his way of mixing grime has always been a favourite of mine and really gets the listener hyped! Royal T starts his set with a sick rework of the grime classic ‘Creeper’ that gets a wheel up before its even dropped.

All the sets are below and this post will be updated as and when the remaining sets are uploaded. Butterz have never been a label to shy away from giving out freebies, last year saw them release stems for a handful of their releases including TRC’s ‘Oo Aa Ee’ & Royal T’s ‘Orangeade’. On top of that there’s always a HUGE mail out dropping every now and again packed full with fire! If you don’t know about Butterz you seriously have to get to know as they are going places!

Forthcoming on Mutant Bass Records, this is shaping up to be a must have EP! The original is mental with a mind melting falling bass that just makes you go crazy, but with the new addition of remixes it just got a whole lot better! My personal favourite is the Avery Caines remix, this Manchester based producer always comes with a punch in the form of heavy bass and crazy wobbles. Label frontman Kanji Kinetic also delivers a cracker of a remix! Three remixes have been previewed in the showreel below but there is talk of ‘more to follow’. There hasn’t as yet been a release date set yet for this but its defiantly one to look out for! Mutant Bass are forever delivering crazy bass heavy releases and best of all their mostly FREE! The odd release in the back catalogue has been ‘name your price’ releases but they are more than worth a couple of quid to show your support! Check the showreel below and information on how to find out more about all the artists involved!

*Update* Enigma Dubz Remix been added to the EP!*
*Update #2* There is talks of this releasing sometime in May! So not long Talks of other remixes from Manic & Nay, although yet to be heard in the showreel!*

This time round we have a 5 track grime EP from producer Ethan Ryan, formally known as Tabz. Known for his bassline tracks Tabz has reformed himself under the name Ethan Ryan and for the last year or so been putting out grime tunes via his SoundCloud. One particular favourite that I still play out is a track called ‘SnapBack’:

As for the new release ‘The Blueberry EP’ gives a nice collection of grime beats. My favourite from release has to be ‘BattleField’, a hard hitting beat with a hyped feel to it:

Check out the showreel below and support the EP using the links below, Sheffield grime at its best!

Ethan Ryan – The Blueberry EP (PAR006)

Blueberry
Lockjaw
Bullet Bill
Battlefield
Aint Your Thing

Personally favourites on here come in the form of ‘Niche Crew’ from Wideboys & the bassline classic ‘Lately’ from TRC & Zoe that nicely closes the mix.
