Yet another great mix to pop up on SoundCloud, this time from Sheffield based DJ Fable. Known for Bassline, DJ Fable has recently branched out into the grime scene and started including more and more in his sets.
This mix offers up a mixture of, as the title says, grime and ‘bass’. Great mix and features a lot of music coming out of Sheffield at the moment! Unfortunately theres no track list, but don’t let that put you off as the music on offer is great and the mixing is on point!
Check out DJ Fable’s show on BCR Monday’s 5pm while 7pm.
Frankly Sick, a DJ based in Cambridge, is one DJ to watch this year! I first came across Frankly Sick via the Voodoo Crew down London that I have a strong link with. Voodoo Crew are great gang of people that I’ve met on a few occasion though out the last year and have a massive love for all music be it grime, bassline or house!
Having studied over in Japan, Frankly is pretty much international with weekly sets streamed via ustream to Japan based station 241FM. His sets are a mixture of old school bassline classic, hard hitting grime and funky flavas. Back in July last year I had the pleasure of DJing alongside Frankly in Brixton and his set blew me away! He’s a great guy with a huge passion for music and I think this is what will take him far!

Once at the forefront of London’s pirates, the newly turned legal station holds up one of the most impressive roster of DJs any radio station has seen. Other then been known for the great music and DJs they are also know for the great nights they put on in and around London, let alone round the country!
Boxing Day 2011 saw the huge night featuring all the Rinse DJs under one roof, with grime, dubstep and funky sets just to name a few! The event took place at London’s ‘Fabric’ and was also broadcast across the airwaves as well as online.

When I first heard Mista Men I was impressed by the cross genre fusion the duo produce. As a duo they produce a cross between garage with hints of both 2-Step and speed garage. The new stuff also incorporates a more dark bassline simular that found in the 2007 era of ‘Bassline’. I saw these guys DJ back in October in Sheffield at a night called ‘It’s A Myth‘ and I wasn’t left unsatisfied. From what I can remember of the set it was a great mixture of bass lead music with garage thrown in. Mella Dee, one half of Mistamen, as also grabbed my attention via the monthly ZIP files sent out by Sheffield label ‘Project Allout’. On a solo tip Mella Dee offers up top quality grime with nice electronic saw feel to the bassline. ‘Amstrad‘ is a track that comes to mind as one of my favourites. Admittedly I haven’t heard much, if any, from the second half of Mistamen ‘Woozee‘. Same said for Dublin based ‘Detboi‘.
I first came aware of the opening track ‘Happen To You’ via DJ Q on his 1xtra UKG show. My first thought was simply ‘I NEED THIS!’. What grabbed me was again the cross genre fusion the track offers. What starts out to be a house track soon turns to a track that can only be described as heavy! The warpy bass takes me back to 2007 in terms of style and delight. Even though the bassline isn’t really melodic it defiantly fits its purpose. I can see this track doing a lot of damage once released, more so down the reaction and exposure it has already received months before release.
The second track again takes me back to time when bassline was, I believe, at its best. The track is entitled ‘I Move Closer’. Again the track starts out very house like and would easily fit in DJ sets in the likes of Ibiza. After breakdown of pure bliss, house is out of the window and in comes the familiar sound of UK Bassline. What I love about this track is the diversity between intro and main body of the track, again a perfect example of the cross genre fusion.
The third and final track is titled ‘Night Lights’. This delivers a more fuller Garage House feel as oppose to the first two. The heavy warping bassline’s is replaced with organ/piano progressions and a nice warming sub bass. It think this track is a nice chilled out way to finished the EP as the first two are rowdy. In no way is that a criticism if anything its a compliment.
The EP as whole deliver a hand full of genres all crammed into three tracks, I for one can’t wait for the EP to drop.
Mista Men ft Detboi – Happen To You EP [Cheap Thrills] Mista Men ft Detboi – Happen To You
Mista Men ft Detboi – I Move Closer
Mista Men ft Detboi – Night Lights
As of yet no date as been released as to when this EP drops but I don’t expect we will be waiting too long!
In the mean time check the guys out on SoundCloud, the links are below!

-
Sheffield based label ‘CryBaby Records‘ bring us there 6th release since launching back in October 2010. After a handful of free releases they bring us their 3rd full digital just short of a year since their last.
So then who’s Gremino? Residing in Finland thousands of miles away from the home of Grime, Gremino pulls out all the stops in producing some of the duttiest grime out of the UK. With releases on London label ‘Rag & Bone’ and underground label ‘Car Crash’ Gremino has defiantly made his mark on the UK grime scene. Regular support on the London pirates as well as support from the likes of Spooky, Dubble Dutch & Slackk he has shown he has got what it takes to stand firm in the UK grime scene.
